Sports Qualification
Applicants must have achieved the required sports standard between 1 April 2024 and 27 August 2026 and must be active sportspersons.
The required achievement depends on the Pay Level. Level 5/4 generally requires international-level achievements such as Olympic representation or specified World Cup, World Championship, Asian Games or Commonwealth Games performance. Lower levels accept specified international, national and university achievements, depending on the discipline.
Candidates should carefully check the discipline-specific sports norms because Western Railway has separate provisions for sports including Cricket, Hockey, Athletics, Boxing, Handball, Volleyball, Powerlifting and Weightlifting.

Selection Process
The Western Railway Sports Quota Recruitment 2026 selection process gives major weight to actual sporting performance.
| Selection Component | Maximum Marks |
|---|---|
| Recognized Sports Achievement | 50 |
| Game Skill, Physical Fitness & Coach’s Observation | 40 |
| Educational Qualification | 10 |
| Total | 100 |
Candidates must score at least 25 out of 40 in the sports trial to be considered for the next stage. The minimum overall qualifying marks are 70 for Level 5/4, 65 for Level 3/2 and 60 for Level 1. Final appointment is based on merit.
Sports Trial Preparation
This recruitment is different from a conventional Railway written examination because sporting achievement and trial performance account for 90 of the 100 marks. Candidates should therefore prepare around the exact event, position or weight category advertised for their discipline.
Applicants must also bring their own playing kit where applicable. Since candidates can be required to remain at the trial venue for 2–3 days, they should plan accordingly.
